the Rad Mag recommends ways to keep loving your zine after you’re done reading.

If you’re not saving her forever because she’s the best thing you’ve ever read, and all of your friends totally fell in love with her already, the Rad Mag recommends using these brightly colored pages to make something new!

Supplies:

-back issue(s) of the Rad Mag or any fun paper

-scissors

-glue/tape

-box, plate, etc. for collecting scraps as you go (totally makes a difference!)

-pictures/keepsakes/fun stuff from life you want to play with

Instructions:

This method of scrapbooking can be used with any items you want to hold on to, not just photos! Use your favorite parts of the zine to frame, color coordinate, and feature flair your memories. Play with layering and shapes, cutting pieces to be placed over each other again in a new way. These colorful pages are sort of already collages - collage to the extreme in your scrapbook or photo album!

What I really love about this kind of art is how it almost always ends in a place you did not start.

Large scrapbooks often come with 12x12 blank pages making scrapbooking in whatever style you love super easy. But a large page is not required! Any notebook, journal, bound group of pages can be a scrapbook. A place to secure your memories for later review or just to keep them safe, all snuggled into the home you made.

Luckily, I did not secure that yet! I decided I would rather see these memories in more of a journal setting. Not to worry about wasting a page! Those labels can be covered with new old items when the time is right.

I have been collaging* a lot more lately and it’s making me nostalgic for my tween journaling days, cutting up magazines and adding graphics to my words.

Have I been saving pieces for junk journaling all year? Sure as heck have.
